Hello, I am Athira A., an aspiring poetess from Ernakulam District, Kerala, India. I have been writing poetry since my a teenager. Apart from writing, I am very much interested in reading. As I am very shy and introverted, you can find me most of the time with a book.

When did the writer’s bug first bite you? Who or what inspired you to take up writing?

For our school magazine, I had kicked off inking down poems. Our class teacher used to share suggestions of books to be read. And the poetry of renowned writers has hugely influenced and inspired me.

What do you do, and how has it influenced your poetry?

Currently, I am working as a compiler and co-author of anthologies. During the work, I get to contact so many talented writers hailing from various parts of the globe. My interactions with them have influenced my writing.

As an author, where do you see yourself five years from now?

As a burgeoning writer, I still have a lot to explore and learn in literature. I hope my future works will have the potential to impact society positively.

How do you face Writers’ Block? What motivates you to keep writing?

Though I am incredibly passionate about writing, depression sometimes blocks my imagination. I rely on melodious songs on my mobile for rescue at such moments. Reading books has also helped a lot to spawn new imaginations.

How has writing built you?

In my experience, writing is the best way to express your feelings, whether bliss or blue, without any boundaries. It has helped me to be more vulnerable and expressive.

What are your Achievements? Awards, if any?

As a compiler, I have got my three anthologies published on Amazon, Flipkart, Notion Press, etc. I have been a part of 100+ anthologies as co-author to date, including world record ones. Have got selected as a winner in writing communities under various publications.

Tell us a bit about how much time you spend in a day on writing. Are you a disciplined writer or a spontaneous one?

As I prefer to write when vibes are positive, you can consider me a spontaneous writer. Approximately 4-5 hours per day are spent on writing.

Are you a reader yourself? What are some of your favorite books?

I am an avid reader and love to explore various English and Malayalam literature genres. My favorites are in the English books read till date,’ The Fault in Our Stars’ by John Green and ‘The Notebook’ by Nicholas Sparks.

Reading in the mountains or reading on the beach?

Of course, Reading on the beach. Being a thalassophile, I would always prefer to lay carefree on the sand bed and enjoy the sunset along with a good book in my hand.

A quote that never fails to motivate you.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Coffee or tea?

Coffee. Though I love both, I have always felt that coffee is tastier than tea.

A literary figure you would love to meet.

I would be eager to talk with the renowned author Paulo Coelho if I get a chance. And I would inquire the motive behind his extraordinary imaginations, as his literary works like ‘The Alchemist,’ ‘Maktub,’ ‘Brida’ etc. have amazed me.

Any new projects that you are currently working on?

I am currently compiling a new anthology and taking part as co-author in more anthologies.
