Youth Icon Bettie Atemo Talks on How BAM Cares Artmore Trending in Kenya Helping Young Poets

What makes you an Ideal Youth Icon?

A consistent poetry writing, tenfold on human mind and nature.

Artmore 😊 is a pun for Atemo, my surname, and my love for art and more art. I'm Bettie Atemo, a poet by passion. I'm currently a teacher of English and Literature in Kenya. I also have a mentorship program for young talent. I'm a founder of BAM CARES Artmore 😊, a Poetry based organization; where I nurture young poets and spread the gospel of poetry both locally, regionally, and internationally.

My poetry skills were discovered at the age of twelve, ever since poetry has been my everyday drive. I use poetry as a daily prescription. My dream is to be recognized internationally as an ambassador of poetry.

I have co-authored in several poetry anthologies and most of my poems are all over my social media platforms including my Facebook page

I aspire to be a great poet; one who not only motivated a soul, but also one who pushed forth the lanes of star answers (lines of stanzas). I dream to publish as many anthologies of poetry and use poetry to regain the mental wellness of potential poets who have never discovered themselves. My urge to society is to stand in the gap of all those who aspire to write so that they can keep on keeping on keeping on writing. Writing is not a talk with everlasting flowing ink... sometimes it dries up when you need it most, and it's this time that I want to fill these dry pens for a better tomorrow. Writing is healing, not writing as an artist is the real disease. I'm inspired by nature and the human mind. A stable mind will surely take care of nature. I greatly yearn that my poetry may enable a soul to look beyond the hostility of their lifetime experiences and foster to become great. We are all going to die, but we all need to live before we leave earth, now that we have a chance to breathe in another presence of no leave of absence. The effervescence to flow for yet another day is the real conscience to just live right and leave everything as purposed.

My greatest challenge has been to write real art as I also interact with mind games of real life that sometimes make me feel bullied as a writer. Poetry is a genre presumably an art that most people tend to focus on the poet and message but ignore the persona who is the owner of the message. Sometimes writing poetry to strangers is more fun than people who know you personally. The majority assume the message of the persona and focus on the poet thus losing the message, the subject, and sometimes the subject matter. However, for nonsensical poems, it's never a challenge owing to the fact that they're rhythmic with minimal ideas that touch the humans directly. This is the core reason I created a platform where poets could air their poetry with minimum misunderstandings. Writing is a challenge too, especially when you have to interact with humans, one needs to be shrewd to avoid the inevitable conflicts of interest. Poetry is an old art that has never been actively engaged in the common mind, yet passively loud through acrostic poems that the common mind writes unconsciously. Most of my audience however enjoy my art, this is through the feedback I get daily. I'm humbled forever.

 Isolated respect

Is far beyond bullying

This is where the real disrespect

Goes beyond what's lying

But the art to lie lies deep in the hurt ralling...

Rolling and talking forth the retrospect

Of isolated respect dying

Of yet another dignity ignored

For the sake of peace

But the art to lie lies deep in the hurt rolling

Bettie Atemo (Artmore 😊) 2021.
